Two Gold Medals at SDIBC!

Our brewmaster, Ryan Pearson, started his brewing career in San Diego and has been perfecting his craft over the last 8 years here at Barrel Mountain. We may be a little biased, but we’re pumped for the two most recent GOLD MEDALS his stouts (Starway Stout and Winch it Out Imperial Stout) won at the 2023 San Diego International Beer Competition!

While many of our beers have won awards, the stout is the most decorated of the lineup, clocking in with 9 medals from not only the SDIBC, but also from the prestigious GABF, BOCBA, World Beer Cup, and our own Washington Beer Awards.

Starway Stout won a silver medal in San Diego in 2017 and 2022, and this year received Gold in the “Bold Stout” category. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should - and you can find it on tap at the pub (open 12-8 daily) and in taprooms across SW WA and Portland. You can take it home with you, too, in 16oz 4pks to go from the pub as well as in several independent retail outlets throughout SW WA and Portland.

Winch it Out Imperial Stout is a barrel aged imperial stout, aged in bourbon barrels, and is incredibly dark and viscous with an espresso aroma and flavors of bittersweet chocolate, raisin, plum and molasses with a creamy mouthfeel and roasty finish. You won’t want to miss this annual release that comes out mid- to late-November. Winch it Out has medaled at both the Washington Beer Awards and San Diego the past two years. Look for it at the pub - we’ll have it on tap and in a limited amount of 16oz 4pk cans to go.
